I use very minimal silicone sealer on rubber impregnated cork gaskets. Too much silicone prevents the cork from soaking up a little oil to swell them and help seal them. I use just enough to hold them in place. Over tightening of the fasteners will distort oil pans, valve covers, side covers. Moderate torque on the fasteners with some blue loctite on the threads is my method
