The "New Departure Division of General Motors Corporation" is mentioned/referenced in the 17th Ed. of Machinery's Handbook. There is a quote attributed to the New Departure Handbook, Vol. II-1951 in the bearing section, but I could not find "granodized" mentioned (edit-in any of those 92 pages in the bearing section).
