I have had good success finding answers to my problems by doing searches here but this one I haven't found my answer on.
I have to replace my rear crossmember on a '56 3600, the very last one before the bumper. I have drilled and pounded out the rivets but wondering about bolting it back in. At the thickest, where the rear spring shackle mounts to the frame, the stack up is maybe 1/4" thick and the rivet hole is .410 dia. needing a drill out to 7/16 dia. Looking at bolts fitting these parameters I find they are threaded up to under the head which, if used, provides only threads for bearing surface dia. for the components.
What is a boy to do in this situation? As much as I would like to re-rivet it together, it is only me doing the work and think there would be more swearing involved than I do when I whack my head or hand.
