I have had no problems with 6v and 12v 235/261 Pertronix units (use a ground wire from a distributor cap clamp-screw to the head).

However, I agree with brokenhead : I think there is only a minimal advantage (if any advantage) in using a Pertronix unit. I'd guess there is no performance advantage when driving at normal speeds/RPM.
