Texaholic2000...yes that was a very informative post and i did appreciate it very much. Was in K-mart the other day and after reading your post... they had these half gal. size cans of miniwax...golden oak stain and seal...so i pick up
the four that were left at 7 dollars each...thought it was cheap enough.
Do you think i bought enough...LOL!...will find other uses for it. Anyway back to the truck.
So i did the top side of the bed and the next day hit with a coat of varathane exterior...why varathane? Because i found an old can of it in the garage and it was still good...Just don't like to waste things i guess... Yes i remember and noted the varnish you recommended and will pick up the marine varnish and go over the varathane with it...if that will work.
Yes i understand both sides have to be well sealed
I guess perhaps i am not making myself clear...it just comes down to whether i should stain and seal the bottom wood of the truck so as it for asthetics looks better or looks and just painted with a good seal that is black in colour?
I think will stain it with the golden oak seal and hit with the marine varnish you recommended...how ever it is kind of cold to be crawing under the truck right now...when it warms up or if i can find a some garage that will let me use their lift rack...would be a lot easier...LOL!
On another note... i must say i really have pick up a lot of good tips and way of thinking about old trucks...such as it seems that most guys would rather keep a truck close to stock rather than "hack" it by putting in the more modern stuff where the drive train is concern...i find very interesting.
