If it's the same as a 283 it must be internally balanced. Most 283's had 10 or 10.5 inch plates with trucks having up to 11 (or maybe 12) IIRC. As long as everything matches and fits inside the bell housing it should be good to go. You know you can use an automatic trans flex plate to fire off for testing.
