Gearing would make an unbelievable change in your set up. Depending on which T5 you have a 4.11 rear would give you from 3.23 to 2.75 for a final drive. A 261 can easily handle the cruising rpm of 3.23's or the torque needed to pull 2.75's. A ring and pinion set up is cheap and you can now buy a thick ring gear to keep your present carrier assembly. You will wonder why you didn't do this first.
