I added a/c to my 1951 chevy car with the original 235 and powerglide. Going down the road I can hear the compressor cycling on and off, but cannot "feel" any difference in the actual speed or power of the 235. These new Sanden compressors take very little horsepower to operate. On these hot summer days that a/c has paid for itself many times over in comfort levels of the driver and passengers.
