Hy 54John3100, yes that sounds correct, if you don't remove the field and armature wires from the regulator then tape them up separately to insulate them. Connecting the alternator output to the "Bat" terminal of the regulator has the "Bat" terminal acting as a terminal block. This way of wiring the system will allow the rest of the electrical system to function correctly. Personally I would not use the regulator "Bat" terminal for the connection between the alternator and the factory wiring, I would remove the factory wire from the "Bat" terminal of the regulator and connect the alternator output wire to it and insulate the connection, hope that helps.
