I am in the process of trying to rebuild the stock rear end of my 1949 chevy 1/2 ton truck (torque tube style) and I have a question on the pinion installation.
When installing the pinion it states to tap it into place with the J-4050 tool between the pinion and the single row bearing. The next step is to install and tighten the three set screws to 26-30 ft lbs and tighten the lock nuts.
Do I remove the J-4050 spacer tool before I tighten the three set screws or after I tighten the three set screws?
I tried to remove the tool after installing the three set screws and could not remove the tool. I had to loosen the set screws to remove the tool and then re-tighten them.
