I was in the same boat as you and i decided to try to fix the fenders on my 39 myself instead of farming them out. I do not know how I survived all these years without a mig. It was worth the investment. The fenders came out great and it gave me the confidence to replace the door bottoms, lower cowl,fix the running boards and make my tailgate which if I would have someone else do would be a small fortune.
