Hy Judson, firstly all the twelve volt systems for the "light" trucks are negative ground, so the positive cable attaches to the large solenoid terminal. The small terminal marked "S" connects to the ignition switch start terminal, the terminal marked "R" connects either to the output terminal of the ballast resistor or to the input (positive terminal) of the ignition coil, hope that helps.
