if I am right, I have a 1957 engine in a 1955 2nd series 3100, and someone put in a pre-1955 valve 'vented' valve cover (maybe to make it look cool????)
Man, this all sounds pretty typical...
Nice (outstanding) job looking up your engine numbers. I can't double check them at my location, but seems like you've got it.
Also, the ' 848 ' number is the cylinder head, and that's the casting number you want.
