Gents,

I've reviewed prior posts on this topic, and can't quite find a post that deals with this directly.

I removed the manifold assembly from my '47 216 and finally was able to free up the exhaust gas deflector. (I used carb cleaner, PB blaster, and tapped it for and aft with a small ball peen hammer - no heat.) Once this was done, the spring was "slack" or resting about 45 degrees ccw from the pin. I completed the wind (tightened it an additional 315 degrees ccw) and set it on the pin.

The deflector has a positive bias to the "closed" (heating the intake) position, but now moves freely.

My question is, is this wound too tight? Where should the spring "rest" once it's been unpinned?

Thanks in advance for the help.

Bill
