Reverse-engineering these wonderfully efficient engines to eliminate the computer, the high pressure electric fuel pump and port injectors, and the electronic ignition timing might be a Luddite approach to the situation. It would also open up a whole new realm of possibilities about what kind of engines and transmissions that could be available to breathe some modern life into the old iron we love to tinker with.
