Thats right. If you want to go with a more durable and longer lasting finish, there are two methods that produce similar results. Powdercoating is one. Its pretty much an easy way because you just take the rims to them, and its done when you pick it up.
The way I went, of course the hard way, was sandblasting to bare metal, epoxy primer, high build urethane primer to smooth to perfection, epoxy sealer to keep everything stable, then a good one stage Urethane topcoat. LOTS of work, but the result was amazing. Although honestly, powdercoating would be much easier for a very similar result.
