Honestly, I think that wrestling with the task of cutting off spring perches, etc and trying to re-locate the centerline of the wheel correctly
using all the old shackles, hardware is not worth it. YOu still end up
with 60 year old springs.
I used the spring kit from Chassis Engineering on the back of my panel truck. Everything is new, time tested, and will mate just fine with that nice Monte Carlo rear; and it will be dead centered in the wheel opening. You get new shocks, perches, pads, all the hardware. The hardest part is grinding off the rivet heads of the old mounting points. They have a bolt on and a weld on version as I recall and sell for around $400…… Dropped mine about 3 1/2 inches, but my body is LOT heavier than a pick up.
