IMHO, stock is always the way to go. However, I purchased this kit,
MEG159 for my '47. I see in the Jim Carter catalog the kit is 'billed' as a New Gas Tank Conversion. In fact it's also designed for 1949-53 Chevrolet/GMC 1/2 ton owners that want to get the gas tank out of the cab!
It was a smooth installation in my 1947......
