I am not recommending moving the tank out of the cab, but Jim Carter sells an "original specification" 47-55 panel-body fuel tank that fits between the frame rails and leaves space for a spare tire carrier.
You'd have to devise a way to hang the tank (or find panel-body hanger parts). Of course, you'd also have to figure out where/how to route/place the filler tube/cap?
