No 1954 truck came from the factory with a Powerglide.
The 2-speed Powerglide was used in cars starting in 1950. It was used in trucks sometime around 1959/60.
In 1954, the only automatic transmission was the 4-speed Hydra-Matic. Most likely, that is what you friend is referring to?
