Well I didn't flip a coin but I think I've decided to use the waterproof filler on the bare metal, get things close, then epoxy prime, then use a "lightweight filler" for the imperfections.
I haven't done a lot of body work in the past so all this is a bit of a learning experience for me, thanks for all your input.
