the cables push/pull the vent doors and hold them in any position [full or partially open/closed], nothing 'spring loaded' .... there's a grommet where the cable goes thru and a clamp just inside there to hold the cable sheath, then the coiled end of the cable core goes over a peg on the door - the clamp may be missing - have an assembly manual? section 1 sheets 55.00 and 55.01 show it all
