I picked up a spare D2-53 guide turnsignal housing at a swap meet. The price was right and I was glad to have a backup. It turns out the truck housing and the car housing are different.
Here is the difference:
Car-
Housing-544125
Mechanism-5944865
Mechanism where you screw in the turn signal is shorter
Turn signal switch hole is smaller and round

Truck-
Housing-544126
Mechanism-5948512
Mechanism where you screw in the turn signal switch is longer
Turn signal switch hole is larger and taller

1) The truck housing is egg shaped on the side where the hole is. Not so on the car one as it is perfectly round. Is it possible that my housing was damaged at some point or is this supposed to be that way.

2) Both turn signals have a lot of play around the column. Was there ever some sort of shim in there it keep the housing from moving around? Part of the reason I am doing this work is because my turn signal switch moves a quarter of the way around the column in both directions when I use it.
