Align the timing marks on the cam and crank gears, and the #6 cylinder should be at TDC on the compression stroke. (both valves closed)
It's possible to fit a degree wheel and a dial indicator and actually do a degree check, but I don't think I've ever seen a stovebolt engine out of time with the marks aligned.
