Its funny what you learn here. Something as mundane as putting a new valve cover gasket can be a learning experience. All these years, I have put high temp permatex on the head and sealed the gasket to the head. Made sense to me back in the day, still makes sense today. Since the engine is not level front to back, about a 2 degree difference from front to back, with the front being higher, a riser such as the one you make from the gasket sealer will keep the oil from leaking out from under the gasket. Much less leakage on my engines. Very happy with the result, although I am sure it is bass ackwards from what everyone else does, I wouldn't have it any other way. But if there is some intelligent reason I shouldn't be doing it that way, I am all ears.
