You could always be a pioneer in this issue and resolve it once and for all using your stock distributor. Two completely different sources have done this with great results. Since two isn't enough, I am trying to sort it out. Here:

In all honesty though, if you are trying to resurrect an engine that's been dormant for a long time, get the stock system working first so you have a starting point. You may not need HEI at all. Afterall, its a low RPM engine with a proven track record.
