If there are no signs of metal shavings inside the bellhousing the chances of it being the source of the noise is almost none in my opinion. As I mentioned earlier, I would get a clean drain pan and dump the oil and see if you have metal shavings. I think you probably will. If you keep running it and fiddling around your just going to wreck something. Its your truck so have at it.
