On my 53, I disassembled the frame, cleaned and wire brushed. Wiped it down with acetone then brushed bedliner on the frame rails/crossmembers that I purchased from Harbor Freight. Used about 1/2 gallon and turned out very bullet proof for about 20 bucks. Wont be worrying about rock chips because it is very tough stuff. Plan on doing the inner fenders with it too.
