Juggman you are correct. I used the horizontal grill bars from a big truck and the vertical bars from the stock grill to end up with a good grill. The big trucks have more substantial bumpers and protection from mishaps.
The hoods on the larger trucks (I think 1.5 ton and up) are longer as well as the fenders and hood latch panel.
