Funny as I just my new boot on this morning. There is a little flange around the bottom of the boot that has to go outside the toeboard, and its a very tight fit. Tight enough that it would take quite a bit of force to pull it out. The boot only goes about two-thirds of the way up the pedal rod, it doesn't go all the way upto the pedal itself.
