Carl, If you look at the way a PCV valve is designed, with an internal spring holding the valve most of the way closed, (in the engine off position), gravity does not seem to play a part in its function(although you had me rethinking it). I looked at all of my PCV's including early V8 style ones that sat horizontal originally and all seem to be about the same in design.
I have set up a number of 235's this way and all worked well.
The reason I have done this conversion is not for water vapor but because of customer complaint of blow-by smell.
Well that's exactly why I was hesitant to question you originally. Your PCV is different from the older ones which were checked by shaking them. If they rattled, they were good. If they didn't, they were gummed up and needed cleaning.
