The '37 is very similar to your '40 and the 250 is very close to the 292, so like mine, you will have length issues. I cut the firewall and moved the engine back plus moved the radiator forward. I could have left both if I wanted to run electric fan and have the engine setting right on the firewall. You will also run into the water pump issue, your 292 water pump will set much lower on the engine then the 216 did making the fan blades hit the lower radiator inlet if you run a mechanical fan. I lowered my radiator as well as moved it forward. You will have to make your own side motor mounts and brake and clutch linkage. Doesn't the factory pedals mount to the trans? The 292 probably will not clear the cut out in the firewall, its a fairly tall engine so some test fitting will be in order.

Trans should hook right up to the engine along with custom made crossmember and mount. New driveshaft, and later model rear axle for sure. That leaves you with drum front brakes with 6 lugs, and some bolt pattern for the rear? I run a '79 Trans Am 10 bolt rear axle, with '73-'79 GM disk brakes up front, both with 5 on 4 3/4" bolt circle.

You will also have to adapt the park brake lever to the transmission or swap to a foot operated one custom mounted. Don't forget to switch over to 12 volts, thus making the fuel gauge not work with out a voltage reducer. The other gauges will work just fine. Steering will clear also.
