I am planning on buying a Sealed Power CS-293 Camshaft for some more torque but a smooth idle.
It is a 261 cubic inch replacement with more lift and duration than a 235 cam. They are new, not reground, and are only $99 at Summit. List is $238.
The matching Sealed Power solid lifters, #AT-874 are discontinued. Melling's are still available, #JB-874 (very similar part number).
The Sealed Power 874 applications are listed as fitting 55-62 Chevy 235 and 261.
The Melling 874 applications are listed as fitting 55-62 Chevy 235 and 261, as well as 194, 230, 250, 292, GMC V-6s, AND small and big block V-8s up to 1974???
Summit offers Comp Cams # 2900-1 solid lifters and Summit lists them as fitting 55-62 Chevy 235 and 261, as well as all the other engines that Melling lists, including the V-8s up to 1974.
O'Reilly auto parts lists the same fitments for the obsolete Sealed Power 874 of only 55-62 235 and 261, but for the Melling 874 it also lists the other 6s and V-8s.
Comp Cams itself lists the 2900-1 lifters as for V-8s up to 1974 but does not mention any 6s.
The dilemma is that some old stock Sealed Powers are out there, and the Melling's are available, but they vary in price from $14 to $25 each. That's $168 a set.
I'm sure the Comp Cams lifters are highest quality and made in USA, yet they are available for only $72 a set.
Does anyone know if the Comp Cams lifters will actually fit?
