I have a 1950 Chevy 3100 with a 235 followed by a manual 4-speed tranny that has a torque tube driveshaft going out back to a set of 4.11's. As you can imagine, 50-55 is about the limit on the highway without blowing something to smithereens. Can anyone tell me if I can change the torque tube driveshaft and the rear end to one from say a 55-57 Chevy truck or car? I'd like to have the open driveshaft and a rear diff that has something in the neighborhood of 3.25 gears to get a better cruising speed on the highway. I go to some car shows with the truck, but can't go far and don't want to put it on a trailer! Any advice will be greatly appreciated as I would like to keep it looking stock, just something with lower rpm's at 65-75.
