Learned today.

1. Oreilly's Auto: Mighty Flow 96004 (Dorman 08-085) $17 gets you 2.5" x 72" of wire core vynil/rubber defrost hose.

You can't install it from above by removing the defroster vents.....once installed on the vent it will not drop through the dash.

So, cut it to length, wipe the inside of the hose with a toothbrush lubed with WD40 and essentially thread the hose onto the vent inserts from below.

Another wipe of WD40 on the inside bottom of each hose and they more easily slip over the nipples of the heater plenum. A tight fit and once two or three wraps of the wire core are in place on top and bottom, they remain snug. Installed, tested and proven. Hardest part of the job is on your back reaching up and feet waiving around in the cab...well, actually, getting back out of the truck once done is harder.

2. Oreilly's Auto: BWD CS26 Switch Ignition. $14 gets you a suitable replacement ignition switch with a true left turn accessory position, off switch locked, off switch unlocked and start run positions. In the run, you can remove and pocket the key. In the off switch unlocked, you can start the truck with a screwdriver.

Disconnect the battery. Insert the key, insert a paper clip and turn the core counter clockwise while pushing down on the paperclip, wiggle the core up and out of the old switch housing. Clean the core.

Remove the switch housing retaining ring and drop the old switch out the bottom. Remove the wiring connector. Clean the wiring connections as needed.

Thread the backup nut from the supplies pack onto the new switch. Install the connector and feed the switch housing up thru the hole in the dash. Install and snug down the switch housing retaining ring. Insert the key in the cleaned/lubed core, insert with the paperclip hole just counter clockwise of the paperclip push pin in the switch housing. Push down and turn with the key. Check function once it bottoms and locks in. Reconnect the battery and check start, run, stop unlocked, stop locked and accessory. Installed, tested and proven.

Next project will be to go see what ports on the original fuse box are powered by the accessory position of the new switch so I can relocate the radio wire. Testing indicates that the accessory position will light the gen light but not power the radio (the main power is tapped to Ign/Unfused while memory is tapped to Cigar.) The run position is the same as the factory switch, engine running or not, the entire truck is powered, radio/heater motor, etc.
