The indicator light, on the switch will need a ground as well. Try clamping a wire to the column where the switch is clamped and ground it to the dash. It might be all that is wrong. The column is painted and has a rubber isolator at the dash. I know it is bolted to the frame, but the turn signal switch is just clamped to the paint on the column.
