It WILL take a longer pin which should have been included in the mirror kit. There is a tool designed to remove the pins and they can be stubborn to get out after all these years. Problem is when you install the mirrors with the longer pins the tool to remove them will no longer fit due to the added thickness of the mirror mounting points. If you can get your hands on the next to last issue of "Street Rodder" and look at the one page that says "For those that drive them" there is a tool to remove the pins that can be made up from scrap material laying around in the garage. It is possible to build the tool first and not have to buy or borrow the store bought one. It is to late for me as I've already purchased the store bought one but will make the home built one as the purchased one no longer fits when/if I remove the pins. Good luck
