Might be worth checking with Hotrod Lincoln. I believe he is doing that very swap on a '55-'59 Panel (I don't recall the exact year), only he is using a 3/4 ton crossmember from a later truck. The basic crossmember is the same, main difference is the load rating and the one he is using has disk brakes.
