I'll second that,Ken. I drove a Ford 2-1/2 Ton service truck from Reno to Elko (290 miles) towing a 5,000# rated trailer with a 7,800#+ Chevy one-ton on it. It was the spookiest handling rig I've ever driven. It handled like the tires were ALL half flat. I stopped in Fernley and checked the tire pressures (the trailer tires LOOKED half flat),and all were filled to the posted max. The man at the truck shop suggested my handling problem MIGHT be that the trailer was overloaded by something like 40% big_eek . Since I was already committed to the trip,I asked him if he thought it'd make it to Elko that way,and he said he believed it would,if I took it REAL easy,so I pressed on.(To quote my little Sister,"That's you all over-Bash on,regardless!") Stopped frequently to let tires and wheel bearings cool, and let my nerves settle a bit,and kept it down to about 55-60 mph. Suffice to say,I'll not do THAT trip again. Until the next time. Fortunately, only two passes to ascend and survive the descent of eek . It got easier to handle as I went,by the time I reached Elko that "hippy hippy shake" felt almost normal.
The trailer I'm building will be considerably beefier-I KNOW how I am cool ...Sorry to hijack the thread
