Look at the inside of the filler cap. If it's clean, someone has probably been running detergent oil and it won't hurt to stick with it. Does the engine have an oil filter? It will keep most of the dirt out of the crankcase. In my case, my 216 was using a quart of SAE 30 every 300 miles, so I switched to 20w-50. Oil use dropped to a quart in 500 miles.
If it's been 20 years since the engine ran, I would remove the rocker cover and pull the coil wire. Crank the engine until oil comes out through the valve train. Then replace the cover and start the old gal. And change the oil at 500 miles the first time.
