It should be a good solution--especially from the clutch standpoint. The Astro van clutch came in 2 sizes...9 1/8 inch and 11 inch. I've had two clutch guys tell me they would be happy to never see or sell another one of the 9 1/8 inch clutches. From their comments, it sounds like that particular disk is bad news from the word go. One of them said you would be better advised to have the original GM part rebuilt.
The 11 inch Astro model is fine but more scarce and more costly. To use the 11 inch clutch, you must locate a 235 flywheel made for an 11 inch clutch. If you live in the DFW area, you already know there aren't many around here. The original:
