You are on the right track.
I used the same Phosphoric based potion from PPG as directed AFTER I had the panel media blasted. You'll notice a kind of hazy rainbow effect on the metal surface and that is normal. In my case that was enough to ward off any surface corrosion
till paint time ; while I started sheet metal repairs and chassis upgrades.
