#10438 01/13/2003 8:52 PM | Joined: Jul 2000 Posts: 962 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Jul 2000 Posts: 962 | RTV= Silicone based gasket makers, or more commonly known as "the gooey red/black/blue/grey stuff in a tube" They can squish out and get into the water passages behind the pump and foul things up.
The spray hi-tack red worked on my '60 235 water pump. Spray both sides of gasket and stick gasket on pump, then bolt pump to engine.
