| Kettle Custodian (pot stirrer) Joined: Feb 2004 Posts: 29,774 | Adjust the sector preload (the nut/slotted screw adjustment) to get a 10 inch lb. rise in turning torque at the steering wheel nut with the Pitman arm disconnected. Start about 1/2 turn away from center, turn the steering wheel with a torque wrench and adjust the preload until you see a rise in turning effort as you turn across center. The turning effort should drop to the previous amount after the center point is passed. If there's a noticeable drop in turning effort in the exact center, the worm gear is worn out. Jerry
