The ratios available for the 2-speeds are "slow" and "really slow"! These old trucks were way underpowered, and super-low gears were the only way to get the loads moving that they were trying to carry. On the low side of the rear end, nothing above a fast walk was expected for the first 2 or 3 shifts and the top end usually came out around 50 MPH or so. Given the braking systems available and the roads they operated on back then, that was probably a good thing!
