My book of wonders says that a 6 volt battery at 100% charge should read 6.3 volts...I guess this means that 3 X 2.1 = 6.3 volts.
If you have a hydrometer, you can read the specific gravity of each cell. This simple test will find a dead or weak cell in a hurry.
