This is my first post to this forum and it seems to be a great group of knowledgeable people here. I am in the process of doing a '61 235 engine swap into my 53 chev 1/2 ton and have a question. I finally got the 235 back from the machine shop and everything is bolting back together. I am using the original 216 bellhousing and flywheel to keep the original foot starter. The flywheel is indexed and bolts in only one way but when I went to do the static engine timing there seems to be a problem. I am setting #1 TDC by lining up the crank and cam sprocket dots and was expecting to see a corresponding TDC alignment mark on the flywheel but I am not. The flywheel has the marks of U|C, a triangle, and then the BB. At TDC, the bellhousing pointer is a couple of inches from the triangle. I thought the triangle meant TDC and the BB was 5 degrees before TDC which is where you would time the ignition. I could just re-mark TDC with paint on the flywheel but really want to know what is going on here just in case I'm doing something wrong. As is, I couldn't use the BB as a timing reference either.
