The carb is a rochester 4 jet. I'm thinking that with the governor pipe unhooked, it's not letting the carb accelerate, like you describe.
I was looking for an easy temporary fix to see if that was the problem before I pull the distributor and retime it. Getting to the distributor means some quality time standing on my head.
'65 C-10, 65 L-60, 65 C-80, 72 C-60 & and a bunch of old Chevy cars.
Never time to do it right, always time to do it over.
