Go to tech tips where there is a good article and search a bit through the forum. It is pretty easy but I ruined mine when I separated the slender shaft from the needle and the weighted base. Others have made the same mistake.
I have not seen a replacement part for this needle shaft so my advise is stop when you get to the point you want / need to separate those parts.
