I need to start off by saying I know nothing about carbs. Recently put a 235 out of a 62 Chevy Impala into my 49 pickup, 3 speed on the column. Engine seems to be good and strong, good oil pressure, holding temp good, no leaks. I got a Rochester along with the engine and was told that they did not think the carb was on the engine but would fit an it did. Truck starts fine but when it gets warmed up it starts missing. Checked air filter an it was nasty. Letf it off and drove to O'Reillys for a new one an truck drove much better, put new air filter in and started running bad again. Is this a carb problem? The Card has no numbers on it anywhere. It says Rochester Products on the Round disk that shows Rich and Lean, has a stainless tube coming out the side that runs down to the manifold, I am assuming to help heat up things quicker. Noticed when engine was running without the air filter, engine was running way faster at idle. So, is this the right carb for this engine, does it sound like I need to get a rebuilt kit or a new carb? Also how would I know what to ask for without any numbers. Thanks so much for any help or advice you guys can help me with.
